Tainan Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-hui Encourages the Youth to Create a Vision Together

On March 10, 2023, Tainan City government held a "Youth Consensus Symposium" to invite the newly appointed members of the third Youth Committee and the members of the first and second Youth Committees to share their experiences. Vice convener of the Youth Committee, Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-hui, also attended the meeting to listen to the voices of the youth. The symposium invited Professor Zeng Xianli from the Department of Public Administration at Tainan University to lead the youth committee members to reach a consensus on policy proposals. Youth representatives bravely spoke up and exchanged policy ideas, including strengthening the use of existing community publicity, increasing career exploration opportunities, assisting labor and management matching, designing pedestrian roads, balancing regional development, achieving zero net carbon emissions, and optimizing the official website.

Deputy Mayor Chao said that youth voices are the best way to change the city. She also encouraged everyone to maintain their enthusiasm for public policy and hoped that through this symposium, everyone could think outside the box and incorporate more diverse youth perspectives in future city planning to shorten the generation gap. She also expressed her expectation that the third Youth Committee has a very strong lineup, and she hopes that everyone can use their imagination to propose solutions that will shine in everyone's eyes.

Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che attaches great importance to the future of youth. In 2019, he established the Youth Committee to establish a public participation and communication platform. Through various diverse exchanges and discussions with the members of the Youth Committee, the city government can understand their needs, ideas, and difficulties and actively provide solutions. He hopes to provide a better development environment for the youth of Tainan City.

Chairperson Chen Shuzi of the Research and Development Evaluation Committee stated that through 70 consensus meetings, working group meetings, and exchange activities, the Youth Committee produced 33 proposals with new perspectives and ways of thinking, covering diverse topics, including entrepreneurship incubation, education, civic participation, community building, youth development, and diverse creativity, with a participation rate of 90%. This "Speak your Mind Youth Consensus Symposium" also invited senior members of the first and second Youth Committees, including Chen Wei-yi, Chen Bo-yang, and Wu Howard, to share their experiences as Youth Committee members. Through today's exchange, we hope to have a deeper understanding of the needs and ideas of young people and shape consensus and create good results through communication.

In the future, Tainan City Youth Committee will continue to be a platform for consultation and communication, assist in planning youth development plans, analyze youth issues of concern and formulate corresponding policies. In addition to holding regular meetings, it also encourages Youth Committee members to come up with youth topic activities and leverage their expertise and networking resources to create a better future for Tainan City's youth.
