To meet the global communication and information technology acceleration and innovation as well as open government and smart city development trend, Tainan City Government transferred the original Information Center to Smart Development Center. Acting Mayor Li Men-yen held the Smart Development Center opening ceremony at Tainan City Government on December 28, 2017. The Smart Development Center is the central technology of Tainan City Government aiming to promote internal digital management and external service innovation while integrating government resources to demonstrate the newest technology.
Acting Mayor Li stated that government is facing various challenges as evolving through times and the ever-changing technology. Therefore, the government must consider how to respond and meet the new problems as well as to enhance the government's efficiency. It’s also an essential task for the government to set up a Smart Development Center. Through the Smart Development Center, the government can examine civil service procedures, promote convenient and straightforward administration, and provide a better environment for smart technology so that more young people can start their businesses in Tainan, to create a livable and convenient Tainan City.
Chairperson of Research Development and Evaluation Commission, Chao Ching-Hui, said that apart from the former Information Center’s original two primary missions, Smart City and Open Government, Acting Mayor Li expected the new Smart Development Center to have more connection with culture and creative market and industry. It is meaningful that Tainan City government has invested in the Tainan Digital Creative Park which has cultivated several innovative groups including the “Toy Doctor” who designed the signboard for the Smart Development Center.
