OPEN1999 Wins “2017 Smart City Innovative Application Award”

On Feb. 21st, Deputy Mayor Chang, Cheng-Yuan represented Tainan to accept the “Smart City Innovative Application award” handed by President Tsai, Ing-Wen. This was the first time Tainan City Government had attended the “2017 Smart City Exhibition” held by Taipei Computer Association under the theme of “OPEN Tainan 1999” project. After being examined by experts in the fields, Tainan was nominated among the 85 contestants, and was invited to participate in the “Smart City Summit & Expo 2017”.

The RDEC noted that Tainan City Government has proactively enrolled in the exhibition, planning to set up a “Vision Smart Tainan” expo to demonstrate Tainan’s aspiration of pursuing “Smart city, Quality life”. The exhibition will feature a variety of contents ranging from “Forging Shalun Green Energy Science City into a smart eco-city” to the fruitful accomplishment of the “4G Smart City” project by cooperating with Far EasTone Telecommunications and Taiwan Mobile.

Since 2015, Tainan City Government promoted 4G projects by aligning with Far EasTone Telecommunications, and has gained a fruitful result that includes the six smart applications cover cloud, disaster prevention, transportation, e-learning, health management, and travel guide. Through combining the cultural essence of Tainan and 4G technologies, Tainan City Government shall lead citizens to embrace the brand new “Smart Tainan”.

There will be various applications displayed in the exhibition, including the visualization platform, “Smart City Panel”, which demonstrates digitalized data in more understandable way and administrative guide app, “Tainan City Hall Aid Service”, which gives directions to citizens by micro-positioning techniques based on 900 beacons scattered inside the city hall.

Besides, the city government and Taiwan Mobile co-work to develop “Smart Audiovisual” and “Smart Microbusiness” including building local modern farmer’s brand and promoting time elapse photography, which signify how the city government makes 4G a part of daily lives, and fulfills visions of “Cultural Capital”, “New Tech Town”, “Low-carbon City”, and “Tourist Paradise” via supporting local start-ups, upgrading local industries, and sustainable development. These achievements will be displayed in the Expo of “Vision Smart Tainan”.

To implement the policy of “open government”, the city government launched Tainan OPEN1999 programme in 2015. Through website (http://1999.tainan.gov.tw/) or officially and privately-developed apps, OPEN1999 not only reveals cases requiring staff-dispatching to the public, but also makes case-notification more convenient compared to those made via traditional phone calls. Meanwhile, OPEN release the API to the public to allow value-added application including cases data download and analysis. Until now, three privately-developed apps with case report function have been released.
