As the conscious of citizen participation rose, Tainan City Government has begun to encourage youngsters to participate in public affairs and extend this concept downward. On Dec. 24th, Mayor Lai hosted and presented awards including one distinctive, two merit, and three honorable works to those who were actively engaged in this“Our City, Our Design” essay competition.
When addressing, Mayor Lai said he was inspired by the works of attending students, and he acknowledged how they envisioned and expected this city to be better and livable. Mayor Lai thought every contestant as the future of Tainan, and he expected them to utilize their passion and expertise to become the councilors, legislators, or even mayor to serve this city.
During the award presentation ceremony, Mayor Lai grasped the chance to illustrate the four development goals of Tainan to attending students. The first one is “Cultural Capital”, which aims to enable everyone visiting Tainan to know deeper and create a sense of identity for Taiwan. The second one is “Low-carbon City”, which is now promoting the Green Energy Science City in Shalun with the central government. The third one is “Smart City”, which aims to cooperate with academic, industrial, and international institutions to transform Tainan by cutting-edge technology. The last one is “Tourism Paradise”. With three National Scenic Areas, over three-million annual tourists, and ten star-hotels in operation, the result of Tainan’s tourism promotion has been revealed.
