The Open Decision-making Committee Praised the Process of Citizen Participation

Tainan City Government held the first Open Decision-making Committee meeting on the topic of New City Hall Location on August 1st. Attending committee members all praised city government effort on opening decision-making process to general public.

In this meeting, Bureau of Urban Development, Tainan City Government made a brief on “10 Evaluation Indicators and 7 Candidate Locations for New City Hall Location”. Research, Development and Evaluation Committee (RDEC) made a presentation on “Execution Model for Open Decision-making” and committee member Wang Yu-jheng explained the topic of “Main Principle on Deliberative Democracy”. The discussion took place after these presentations.

Most of the committee members hope that through the selection process to new city hall location, city government can picture future development of Tainan City. Committee members hope that through opening data like city development, regional planning, etc., city government can achieve the true spirit of deliberative democracy. All of the committee members expressed their ideas passionately during the 4 hour discussion. After the intense discussion, chair of the committee approved RDEC’s execution model. The committee further instructed Bureau of Urban Development Bureau and RDEC to provide more specific planning on the open decision-making process for the selection of the new city hall location.
