Smart Management and Big Data Analysis Implementation

The Chairperson of Research Development and Evaluation Commission of Tainan City Government Chao Ching-hui was invited to 2017 Digital Government Summit as one of the speakers for “Hear the Municipal heartbeat and achieve a smart government- Tainan City Experience” including sharing the current situation of Smart City Tainan and the implementation on the big data from OPEN1999 platform with the participants, in order to set a profound structure for digital city management.

Chairperson Chao stated that Tainan City Government used the open data and conducted analyses with experts from academia and public to assist the government on anti-epidemic strategy adjustment during the severe outbreak of Dengue fever in 2015. This is also the first time in more than a decade that Taiwan has made a scientific epidemic prevention contributing to the dengue epidemic.

To support Tainan Zero-tolerance policy on illegal parking, Tainan City Government identified the supply and demand and set up new parking space in illegal parking hot spot by analyzing the public’s feedback from OPEN1999 with data analysis assistance from the National Cheng Kung University and the Information center, Bureau of Education.

Chairperson Chao pointed out that government employees might encounter problems while on duty whereas school professors possess the data analysis tools, therefore if combining problems and solutions together, the municipal promotion could be enhanced. Tainan City Government established Taiwan’s first Micro-Program in “Digital City Management” in corporation with the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, National Cheng Kung University, hoping to increase government employees’ data analysis capability on problem solving.
