European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Reports Tainan’s Smart City Initiation

The newest edition of “2017 Trade Exchange Quarterly” published by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) reported Tainan City’s smart city initiation under the topic of “Old City, Smart City, Green City”. The article described in details on how Tainan City Government collaborated with a mobile carrier to transform the antique city into an environment friendly city.

Aiming to spur business trades with countries receiving aids from ERBD, ERBD launched the Trade Facilitation Program (TFP), and publishes Trade Exchange Quarterly to report on developments of recipient countries. With a special column established, Trade Exchange Quarterly presents Taiwan to the world through the lenses of Taiwan. Tainan City Government began to cooperate with FarEasTone in 2015 to promote smart city, and was selected as ICF’s 2017 Smart21. In addition, Tainan City Government will include the national goal of providing 20% of total power supply using renewable energy into its development objectives, and speed up relating projects to develop an eco-friendly city while incorporating both the essence of an antique city and technological developments.

The 6 flagship IoT (Internet of Things) and smart cloud-based services deployed by Tainan City Government includes “Smart City Operations Center”, “Water Resource Monitoring and Disaster Management”, “Intelligent Bus Operating System”, “CloudPlay Mobile Learning Program”, “Health Monitoring Stations”, and “AlleyTainan”. These services link government resources to enhance public service efficiency to solve various challenges.

Tainan will not only continue to advance these services, but also establish a platform to integrate all resources in the future to lead the utilization of smart application to spur business opportunities, and provide its citizens a comprehensive service.
