Tainan City Government launched a team aiming at handling the cross-strait issues for the purpose of the stable bilateral development and the interaction. The first conference was called on July 27th in which Mayor William Lai pointed out that we should work together and move forward in a mutual-trust manner. At the present stage, Tainan City is firmly managing to promote both-side communication and will take a further step to integrate all the advanced resources, and push the cross-strait interaction ahead.

Lai took up the position of the convener of the team and designated Yan Chun-zuo, the Deputy Mayor, as the assistant convener. The engaged committee consists of Huang Huang-huei, the former principal of National Cheng Kung University, Dai Cian, the principal of Southern University of Science and Technology, He Jhih-cin, the principal of National Taipei University, Lin Wun-cheng, the dean of College of Social Science, National SunYat-Sen University and Dong Li-wun, the associate professor of Department of Social Security, Central Police University. This committee also includes some official members of Tainan City Government, such as Chen Zong-yan, the head of Bureau of Civic Affairs, Chen Siou-ping, the head of Bureau of Education, Syu Han-cing, the head of Agriculture Bureau, Fang Jin-cheng, the head of Bureau of Economic Development, Wang Shih-sih, the head of Tourism Bureau, Ye Ze-Shan, the head of Cultural Bureau, Lin Seng-Jhe, the head of Department of Health, Siao Bo-Ren, the head of Department of Legal Affairs, and Wu Tang-Cheng, the head of Bureau of Information and International Relation.

Members of the committee touched all bases and laid their professional viewpoints ardently in the conference to make up the direction for the cross-strait development. Aside from combining the reciprocal cities’ features in culture, trade, tourism and agriculture, we will be more concerned about the students, spouses, tourists, and merchants from China at the same time. Tainan City Government will arrange the meeting regularly, so each bureau and department can respectively report their projects and consult about all the issues. Based on the welfare of the citizens, we hope to expand the cooperation between Tainan City and China.
